Salesforce Rolls Out a Facebook for Businesses

The SFDC application brings Facebook-like functionality into the context of other, business-focused apps on their platform. This means that the social media objects may in fact be references to business content, which is an interesting prospect for tying together work flow, sharing context and fostering collaboration.

Salesforce.com’s Chatter has integrated a lot of Facebook’s elements into its layout and configuration. There are user profiles, status messages (where you can leave your status on a current project or make a request for information, for instance), groups and individualized streams that you can customize to pump in information. You can also share files and links in the same way you would share photos using Facebook.
